Work, Play, and Other Interests
Welcome to my home page! My name is Kristin Yiotis.
When I'm having fun I'm probably swimming at my favorite pool.
I've been a lap swimmer for 15 years and believe that right now I'm swimming the best ever. I can pretty easily do all the strokes, freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly, which I just added to my workout.
People who are fanatic about swimming have weekly, sometimes daily, workouts, and this requires regular access to swimming pools. Pool club membership is expensive. You may wonder how I support my swimming habit? I took Red Cross lifeguard training and became a certified lifeguard and swim instructor. Until this summer, I worked as a lifeguard and kept this up for 10 years. Most of the time I had one shift a week.
Besides knowing how to swim, what skills are required for lifeguarding? One is delivering excellent customer service. Another is being nonjudgmental; the last is having lots of patience. When people come out to swim laps they are self conscious and nervous about their ability. Sometimes they need encouragement. You have to be friendly, tolerant, and nonjudgmental. You may have to encourage people and explain the finer techniques of swimming.
In the following links, I've included my high school in North Salem, NY, a distance learning module for the class I taught at De Anza, a photo of my ex-supervisor, my paper on De Anza's Profile, information about angel trumpet plants like the four I'm always caring for, my best friend's Web site, and to Johnny Watson's site:
